Scripture
Verse for Today So there was great joy in Jerusalem: for since
the time of Solomon the son of David king of Israel there was not the like in Jerusalem. (2 Chronicles
30:26)
Since the
days of Solomon Jerusalem had not experienced such joy! What had happened that caused such rejoicing? Under the leadership
of wicked King Ahaz Judah grew far away from God and were in great distress. Armies from different lands
had marched into Judah and taken away what they wanted. But when Ahaz died his son Hezekiah became king
and immediately began to bring the nation back to God. Hezekiah loved the Lord and opened the doors of
the temple. He then cleaned and repaired it. After setting in order the priests for
the service of the temple, he proclaimed a great feast. Many came from all over Judah and even Israel at
the king’s invitation. They confessed their sins and offered sacrifices, and then they worshipped. What a service!
They sang, played instruments, and rejoiced with great joy. Oh that America could experience such
a revival! ~~~
